Friends of Pichet: A Resounding Success & Culinary Celebration with Jess Murphy
On September 22nd, 2024, Pichet, one of the best French restaurants in Dublin city centre, hosted an indelible evening of food, wine, and collaboration with acclaimed chef Jess Murphy from Kai Galway. This Friends of Pichet with Jess Murphy was a celebration of Irish culinary craftsmanship, with a carefully curated menu by Jess and Pichet’s Head Chef, Harry Quinn. The evening spotlighted produce from Irish suppliers, particularly from the west of Ireland, and was a true monument to the quality and passion of local and regional producers.
Sourcing the Best of Ireland
The menu drew heavily from exceptional Irish ingredients, with Jess and Harry bringing together products like Tersa’s Kylemore Raw Milk Cheese, produced from the Kilmora Pedigree Holstein herd, and fresh Kelly Oysters, straight from Galway Bay. This collaboration not only celebrated Irish cuisine but also honoured the skill of the farmers, cheesemakers, and fishmongers who contributed to this spectacular event.
Friends of Pichet with Jess Murphy – The Menu
The evening began with an enticing array of snacks:
– Focaccia with caramelized onion and miso butter
– Crispy potato with truffle emulsion and Knockanore cheese custard
– Harissa-spiced lamb shoulder croquette with Caesar mayo
These were paired perfectly with Pannier Champagne, setting the stage for the courses to follow.
The first course delighted with Galway’s finest Kelly Oysters, served with a blackberry mignonette and paired with Puynard Blanc de Noirs, a crisp and refreshing accompaniment.
Next came the fish course, showcasing Niamh’s Arran Island Crab, paired with kohlrabi and Goatsbridge Trout Roe. The dish found an elegant pairing with Soave Corte Mainente, balancing the flavours beautifully.
For the main course, guests enjoyed Damson Glazed Venison Loin served with wild horseradish cream, Vegemite roasties, and pumpkin miso puree. This hearty dish was elevated by Chateau Mourges De Gres Terre D’argence Syrah, a bold red that complemented the venison perfectly.
To finish, the dessert featured a decadent Tart Tatin with fig leaf ice cream, followed by Kylemore Farmhouse Cheese paired with quince. The evening closed with Seifreid Sweet Agnes Late Harvest Riesling and Grants 10-Year-Old Tawny Port, providing a perfect ending to this fine dining experience.
